Walmart product image requirements, explained

Walmart Marketplace publishes a specific spec for listing images: square files, a seamless white main image, and no watermarks or promotional text. Below is the checklist from Walmart's own Marketplace Learn guide, and how to get there from an ordinary phone photo.

How to make one with SnapStudio

  1. Take the photo in soft, even light (a window on an overcast day is ideal). Fill most of the frame with the product and keep the whole item in shot.
  2. Open SnapStudio and drop the photo in. The background is removed in your browser; the image is never uploaded to a server.
  3. Pick a background (pure white #FFFFFF, any solid colour, or a soft gradient) and toggle the subtle shadow and lighting cleanup.
  4. Tick the export sizes you need and download the JPGs (plus a transparent PNG cutout) individually or as a ZIP.

SnapStudio doesn't have a dedicated Walmart preset yet. The closest fit is the Amazon export: a 2000×2000 px square JPG on pure #FFFFFF, which clears Walmart's 1500 px zoom minimum but is below the 2200 px in Walmart's spec. Free images carry a small watermark, which Walmart doesn't allow on a main image, so use a paid pack or plan for the files you list. Selling on Amazon too? See the Amazon main image requirements; the two rule sets are similar.

FAQ

What size should Walmart product images be?

Walmart's spec is 2200 × 2200 px, square (1:1). Images need to be at least 1500 × 1500 px for zoom to work.

Does the Walmart main image need a white background?

Yes: seamless white, RGB 255, 255, 255. Larger items such as furniture may be shown in an expected environment instead.

What file types does Walmart accept?

JPEG, JPG, PNG and BMP, in RGB colour and 5 MB or less. GIFs are not permitted.

Can I put my logo or a watermark on Walmart images?

Not on the main image. Walmart also asks that no image includes promotional claims or Walmart or other retailer logos and names.

How many images should a Walmart listing have?

Walmart recommends at least four images per listing, with no duplicates.

Can I reuse my Amazon images on Walmart?

Often, if they are square, on pure white, at least 1500 px and free of text, logos and watermarks. Check that nothing in the image mentions Amazon or another retailer.
