Amazon main image requirements, explained

Your main image is the photo shoppers see in Amazon search results, and Amazon can suppress a listing whose main image breaks the rules. The checklist below covers what Amazon asks for and how to meet it in a couple of minutes.

How to make one with SnapStudio

  1. Take the photo in soft, even light (a window on an overcast day is ideal). Fill most of the frame with the product and keep the whole item in shot.
  2. Open SnapStudio and drop the photo in. The background is removed in your browser; the image is never uploaded to a server.
  3. Pick a background (pure white #FFFFFF, any solid colour, or a soft gradient) and toggle the subtle shadow and lighting cleanup.
  4. Tick the export sizes you need and download the JPGs (plus a transparent PNG cutout) individually or as a ZIP.

SnapStudio's Amazon export is 2000×2000 px on pure #FFFFFF with the product scaled to fill the frame. Free images carry a small watermark, which Amazon does not allow on a main image; use a $5 pack or a plan for the files you actually list.

FAQ

Is off-white or light grey OK for an Amazon main image?

No. The main image background must be pure white, RGB 255, 255, 255.

How much of the frame should the product fill?

About 85% or more. Products that look small in a sea of white are a common reason images get flagged.

What resolution does Amazon need?

At least 1,000 px on the longest side to enable zoom. 2000×2000 px is a safe square.

Can I add my logo, a badge or text?

Not on the main image. Text, logos, watermarks and graphics are not allowed there; use secondary images for infographics.

Do these rules apply to every image?

The white-background rule is for the main image. Secondary images can show lifestyle shots, scale and details.
